I have two sons, Dalton (24) and Damon (22) Wangerin, and an adopted daughter, Angela (40). She is married to Jeremy Limoges and they have 3 kids: Sofia (13), Stella (10), and Pierce (8). My mother, Betty, and I own our home together so she lives with me here in Mitchell.
I am entering my 30th year of teaching! I started teaching in 1987 in Alcester, SD, where I taught 5th & 6th grade English and Social Studies for three years, and 4th grade for nine years. I moved to Mitchell in 1999. I taught 4th and 5th graders at LB Williams up until 2012. In fall of 2012, I moved to the Middle School to teach 7th grade math. From 2008-2012, I taught a math class at DWU and I also have taught a teaching and learning master’s class for SMSU from 2011-2015.
From 1999 until 2006, I coached Mitchell High School gymnastics. After 2006, I judged gymnastics for SDHSAA. The 2013-2014 year was the first year, since 1999, I wasn’t involved with high school gymnastics. Last year, I helped with the high school team for a short time during November and December. Last year, I returned to judging.
I spent time in the South Dakota Army National Guard from January 1982 until Spring of 1994. During that time, I worked through the ranks from Private E1 to Captain. I attended basic training, AIT, BNCOC, ROTC Advanced Training, Army Airborne Jump School in Ft. Benning, and my OBC in Ft. Eustis, Virginia. I spent 3 weeks in Korea for Team Spirit in 1988, and served as an officer in the Middle East during the Desert Storm Gulf War in 1990-91.
I enjoy movies a lot, so I also work at Logan Luxury 5 Cinema in Mitchell. I sometimes work at the box office, in concessions, or I manage. It is a very fun part-time job. I also love football! I am a Minnesota Vikings fan and try to attend at least one game per year. My son, Dalton Wangerin, graduated from Northern State University with a Business Management degree in May 2017, and is working for Northwestern Insurance. My son, Damon Wangerin, graduated from Mitchell Technical Institute for Power Lineman/Journeyman School in May of 2015. He is working for East River Electric in Madison, SD.
